QUESTS are an essential game mechanic in OMORI. They serve as major tasks that the player can take on for plot progression, obtaining new items, or simply full completion of the game itself.
Some of them are mandatory, meaning they must be completed to progress the story. Most quests in the game are optional but can be completed if the player chooses to do so. Down below lists all quests found in the two primary locations of the game: HEADSPACE and FARAWAY TOWN.
HEADSPACE
The QUESTS that appear within HEADSPACE are mainly optional but only a few are mandatory to complete. The most prominent of them all is the driving force of the story, which involves OMORI and his friends searching for the missing BASIL, who has strangely vanished due to an ominous force lurking in the shadows.
To initiate a quest, the player must talk to any NPC that has a floating black-colored text bubble with a white lightbulb inside. Doing so begin a quest the group can complete. Completed and uncompleted quests can be viewed by talking to MARI, who can only be found near her picnic baskets set throughout HEADSPACE.
Note that some quests can be abandoned if the player decides to focus on completing the story or by entering BLACK SPACE. This will render them inaccessible and incomplete. It is best advised to talk to MARI anytime you want to check on which quests that you want to complete.
FARAWAY TOWN
QUESTS found within FARAWAY TOWN are quite different from the ones in HEADSPACE. Since MARI isn't present to help SUNNY keep track on which quests he must complete, most of them can be notoriously difficult to keep on track.
Additionally, none of the FARAWAY NPCs that give out quests have floating text bubbles to indicate whether the quest is complete or not. Despite this, the same sound that plays when completing a HEADSPACE sidequest can be heard upon completing a sidequest.
Therefore, it is best advised to keep track using save files that reload to a certain point in the game on which quests are available throughout each FARAWAY TOWN segment. Doing so will help the player remember which quests they still have left on each day and evening segment.
